    #1: Disaster Recovery Workshop

    SYNOPSIS

Across the SEAPAVAA network, tangible and intangible heritage is being affected by climate change. Fire, water, physical forces, pests, extremes in relative humidity and temperature, pollutants, and dissociation threaten collections. Audio, video and film materials are particularly susceptible to damage and loss. The increased frequency and severity of weather events require staff ‘safeguards’ of heritage to maintain and upskill in disaster preparedness and recovery. This workshop offers practical and sustainable approaches to recovery and disaster management. Participants will gain hands-on experience through a simulated disaster scenario. The full day workshop will comprehensively cover planning, assessing, responding to, and reflecting upon a water-based disaster. Practical storage methods and packaging material properties to reduce the impact of damage will also be discussed. The workshop is aimed at new starters in collection care and colleagues wishing to refresh their disaster management skills. It is an opportunity to collaborate with colleagues and share disaster experiences.

#2: Nomination of AV archives on the International MOW Register

    SYNOPSIS

Established in 1992, the UNESCO Memory of the World (MOW) program aims to promote awareness and access to documentary heritage, which encompasses original formats and unique records in written, audio, and film formats. Documentary heritage items consist of both information content and the carrier on which it is stored, making preservation a critical concern. The Memory of the World program registers play a pivotal role in raising awareness of unique content from contributing countries, with selected register entries featured on the international register to enhance their research profile. As a repository of valuable information and potential archives, SEAPAVAA is well-positioned to engage with the Memory of the World program. To highlight this connection and facilitate engagement, a special session of workshops focused on the Memory of the World program will be held as part of the SEAPAVAA Conference. This session will provide participants with the opportunity to delve deeper into the program and explore potential avenues for collaboration and contribution. Participants will be able to develop action plans in submitting nominations to the MoW program, increasingly engage with other participants to strengthen collaboration that further supports AV preservation of documentary heritage in the region.
